If you feel that your child is not growing or mastering skills appropriate for that age, a professional assessment helps to get a clear picture of the issue. Look out for signs like a lack of eye contact, inability to concentrate, poor reading skills and academic performance that could be signs of a learning disability. Schools may also recommend a professional assessment and ask for a report to be shared with them if a child is not performing as expected. Speech delays, inability to speak clearly or express thoughts into words could need a speech development assessment. Aggressive behavior, difficulty in making friends and not being able to handle activities of daily life like eating or dressing up independently can also indicate an underlying problem that a proper evaluation can help to identify.

Assessments for different conditions are recommended at different ages, depending on the scales used. Each test has its own guidelines under which the assessment is done. Our specialists have done assessments for children from birth to check for developmental delays. But, most others are from the age of 2 years onwards.

Depending on the scale used and the conditions to be tested, a detailed assessment can take anywhere between 1 to 5 sessions.

Depending on the requirement and condition to be tested, the specialist decides which assessment scale will be best. Each assessment has a predetermined format and guidelines that are strictly followed to get an accurate evaluation. Some tests are child-led and involve oral questionnaires of certain activities to be demonstrated by the child. Others may be parent-led to discuss situations and observations.
